An update to our 'Facts' section
03/10/2008 - 09:02

A recent article published on the Times Online exposes a major oversight in some commonly quoted statistics related to the direct link of plastic bags and the death of marine animals. Apparently researchers in Australia misquoted a Canadian research study. Misinterpreting data showing deaths caused by marine debris, mostly derelict fishing equipment, and claimed it was the result of plastic bags. I have removed the related statistic from the site and done by due diligence to ensure that our remaining information is in line with reliable sources.

California wildfires
11/07/2007 - 18:47

As everyone knows by now, wildfires have ravaged a good chunk of California recently, with some spots still burning. A side note in a portion of the news stories was that half a million acres of forest were lost. Secondary to the loss of homes, lives, and money. Now I can understand the importance of those three items, and I can definitely sympathize with all of them, but I wish that more emphasis was placed on exactly the scale of wilderness that was lost. The years and years and years of growth, and the amount of time it is going to take to recover these forests. Not to mention the amount of habitats that were ruined, and the centuries it will take for even a small portion of them to be recovered. As sad as it is though, the blame generally doesn't always fall on any one person. Sometimes the blame is people in general, with downed power lines... sometimes its natural, like a lightning strike. What irritates me though, is that a kid with no respect for his environment decides to play with matches and singlehandedly destroys 40,000 acres. It's sad that this kid was never educated or made to understand the danger of fire to that portion of the country, during a dry season, and the overall impact a fire could have. I guess when a kid is that young, he was under 13, it's hard to make them understand. But in my mind it's important that people try, schools try, politicians try, and everyone tries. Maybe then we could avoid things like this, and our environment would be better because of it.

Inaugural post
06/08/2007 - 09:01

This is the first post of hopefully many more to come. Our purpose for starting the site is three fold. First and foremost, to provide an environmentally friendly product that will continue to help to lessen our impact on the planet as the product is used. Secondly to raise awareness of environmental issues and highly helpful resources on the web via our blog. And thirdly, to prove that Capitalism and Environmentalism are not fundamentally at odds with each other by creating a business plan that generates both a profit and funds for charities.

Of course we know that you can buy canvas bags lots of places, which is certainly a good thing. We have all seen the environmental bags with picture of the earth or whales breaching on them. Unfortunately we aren't all hippies. So our idea is something more hip, more fun, hopefully a bit more edgy. The goal is for this bag to have some style, and our original bag might not be for you, but hopefully the next one we make, or the one after that, or maybe a messanger bag, or a backpack, or a T-shirt...

We're looking forward to our new venture and hopefully elevating the level of discussion. So check by often, leave comments on our posts, and let's try to improve this world one bag at a time.
